President hails efforts made by country's public security forces

HA NOI (VNS)  — President Truong Tan Sang has hailed the contributions of the public security sector in the country's national construction and defence and urged the sector to meet the new requirements for development and international integration.

Sang made the comments at a meeting with the public security sector's former generals, leaders and staff in Ha Noi yesterday to mark the 70th anniversary of Viet Nam's Public Security force and the 10th anniversary of the Public Day for National Security and Defence.

"In the last 70 years, the public security force has developed ceaselessly with generations of generals, staff and soldiers completely loyal to the nation and the people and always fulfill their missions with their best," he said.

He added that the process of doi moi (renewal), industrialisation, modernisation, international integration, building and defending the country needed a strong force.

"The sector's tasks are even more difficult to accomplish amid complicated developments in the world and increasing hostile activities to ruin the Party, State, and national unity," the President said, adding that it was necessary to build a transparent, strong, and elite force.

Formed in the August uprising in 1945, the public security sector received lots of instructions from President Ho Chi Minh, the Party and the State. The force now has 541 high-ranking officials with general levels who are in charge of important task in Viet Nam. — VNS
