Police arrest 9 people over pollution protest

QUANG NINH — Local police remanded nine people in custody for protesting againt the pollution of the environment by Lam Thach 2 Cement Factory, owned by Quang Ninh Cement and Construction Co Ltd.

Traffic on the National Highway 10 was at a standstill for many hours while the protesters gathered to prevent vehicles from entering and exiting the factory.

Previously, local authorities temporarily suspended the factory from operation because it discharged toxic exhaust fumes, thus polluting the environment.

Authorised agencies continue to search for solutions for the case.


Vietnamese satellite centre to be set up

HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has decided to set up a National Satellite Centre under Viet Nam's Institute of Science and Technology.

The centre, to be located in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Zone in Ha Noi, has been assigned the project of building a National Cosmography Centre.

The cosmography centre will study and produce small satellites to forecast weather or seek and rescue people in the case of emergencies. — VNS
