Last year, the Fatherland Front Committee of the central province of Ninh Thuan built 84 houses and offered 30,000 gifts worth VND10 billion ($468,000) for the poor and families who had made contributions to the country during wartime. The money was sourced from the Fund for the Poor.
Under a Government decision, the committee also provided 853 tonnes of rice to the poor living in the province's remote mountainous areas.
This year, the province targets mobilising VND12 billion ($561,720) for the Fund for the Poor.

Binh Dinh disburses $9.3m for fishermen
Binh Dinh's People's Committee has disbursed VND200 billion ($9.36 million) to help fishermen buy fuel, communication devices and fishing insurance under Government Decision 48/2010/QD-TTg, according to Phan Trong Ho, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Last year, the department received 8,400 applications from the fishermen. To date, the department has verified 4,256 applications.
The programme aims to help offshore fishermen to upgrade and build new vessels for offshore fishing, increase income and protect the country's sea and island's sovereignty, according to the department.

New hospitals to ease overloading
Construction is underway on many hospitals nationwide, with a total of 4,000 beds, as part of a three-year plan to ease hospital overloading, which began in 2013. The number of hospital beds is expected to rise by 25,700 this year compared to 2012.
