More start-ups established this year

A total of 6,087 companies with a combined registered capital of VND57.3 trillion (US$2.7 billion) were established nationwide in June, up 10.7 per cent and 89.6 per cent, respectively, compared to May, according to the General Statistics Office.

In June, the number of companies that were dissolved or temporarily closed totalled 6,369, down 5.1 per cent against May.

Quang Ngai builds new paediatric hospital

The Quang Ngai Province Department of Health last week began construction of the Quang Ngai Obstetric and Paediatric Hospital. The five-floor hospital, which cost nearly VND500 billion (US$23.8 million), will have 300 beds.

City District 2 to build 1,000 units for poor

The HCM City People's Committee has approved a plan to build 1,000 apartments for low-income people in District 2 during the 2014-15 period.

The apartments will each have an area of 50 sq. metres and 80 sq. metres.

Capital will be raised from various sources, including investors, bank loans and apartment buyers.

Livestock prices increase again

The price of livestock went up again recently, according to Hoang Thanh Van, head of the Animal Husbandry Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In May, the price of super-lean pigs was VND53,000-55,000 (US$2.5 – 2.6) a kilo in the South, VND46,000-48,000 a kilo in the North, and VND44,000-45,000 a kilo in the central region. These prices were VND2,000-5,000 higher than in January and March.

The price of livestock and poultry is expected to increase from now until August.
