Japanese President of House of Councilors to visit Viet Nam

HA NOI (VNS) — The President of Japan's House of Councilors Yamazaki Masaaki will pay an official visit to Viet Nam from December 7 to December 10.

The visit will be made at the invitation of Chairman of the Viet Nam National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung, according to the NA's Committee for External Relations.

Viet Nam and Japan established diplomatic ties in 1973. Japan has become a top economic partner of Viet Nam and is the country's largest official donor, the second-largest foreign direct investor and the fourth-largest trading partner. It accounted for nearly 30 per cent of the US$90 billion in total official development assistance granted to Viet Nam over the past 20 years.

In 2014, two-way trade between the two countries exceeded $27.6 billion. In the first half of this year, the figure reached $13.9 billion.

With about 85,000 Vietnamese living in Japan and 11,200 Japanese in Viet Nam, people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries is at its best level ever. — VNS
