HCM CITY — Lê Quý Tông, one of Việt Nam’s most talented contemporary artists, will return with a new exhibition called True Gold at the HCM City-based Địa Project on November 5.

The exhibition will showcase his works using a technique combining painting, decorated pattern and found imagery, all of which he experimented with in his last exhibition, True Blue, in Hà Nội in 2015.

Sourcing images from mass media and archives, Tông’s latest works transcends time and dissolves borders in a global study of political discord, a press release said.

Born in 1977 in Hà Nội, Tông graduated from the oil painting department of the Hà Nội University of Fine Arts. Tông’s paintings reflect the people and the rhythm of life of Hà Nội.

His paintings and self-portraits have been welcomed by international art critics and the public, which have been exhibited in the US, the UK, Japan, France, Thailand and Việt Nam.

He has won top prizes at both portrait and painting contests organised by the HCM City Fine Arts Museum in 2009.

True Gold will open at 6pm at 1057 Bình Quới Street in Bình Thạnh District. It will run until January 5. — VNS
