ĐÀ NẴNG — A fishing vessel with five fishermen on board was rescued on Wednesday, according to the Office of the National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue.
The boat was hit by a Chinese ship at 10am on Wednesday while it was fishing near the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) archipelago, about 198 nautical miles off the coastal city of Đà Nẵng.
The fishing boat was owned by Nguyễn Minh Hùng, a native of Quảng Ngãi.
After receiving the news, the office requested the Viet Nam Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to collaborate with its Chinese counterpart to rescue the crew members of the vessel. They were then taken to safety by a nearby fishing boat two hours later. All fishermen are in a stable condition.
Also on Wednesday, ten fishermen were rescued off Thuận An coast in the central province of Thừa Thiên Huế as the gearbox of their boat suffered a fault.
Upon receiving a distress call from the boat, the Office of the National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue ordered relevant agencies in the province to help. It was towed to safety on the same day. — VNS
