Producing mangrove charcoal is a traditional craft in the southernmost province of Cà Mau, and it can still be found today in Ngọc Hiển District. But its popularity has been on the decline in recent years. Presently, the export of mangrove charcoal is encountering many difficulties and the mangrove charcoal mainly serves local demand. But domestically, too, the demand is declining because most people have switched to gas, and the livelihood of the charcoal makers has become unstable.
