Cranes come early to An Giang

Update: September, 17/2011 - 09:20
AN GIANG — Sarus cranes seem to be returning earlier than usual in their annual migration to the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of An Giang, with a local official reporting the arrival of a flock of around 20 in Tri Ton District's Vinh Phuoc Commune on Wednesday.

Nguyen Van Van, chairman of the district People's Committee, said since the flood season was upon the delta, nang (Eleochris) fields in Kien Giang and Dong Thap provinces were possibly submerged, leaving the birds unable to find food there.

In his commune, rice and nang fields were not inundated because dykes had been built around them this year, he added. — VNS
