HÀ NỘI — The capital city will build 14 new bridges over the Hồng (Red) and Đuống rivers by the year 2030, said Vũ Duy Tuấn, deputy director of the city’s Planning and Investment Department.

The plan is part of the capital’s transport master plan by 2030 and vision by 2050, approved by the Prime Minister.

Under the plan, the 10 bridges over Hồng River will be Việt trì-Ba Vì, Vân Phúc, Hồng Hà and Thượng Cát, as well as Tứ Liên, Trần Hưng Đạo (tunnel bridge), Vĩnh Tuy (second phase) and Ngọc Hồi, in addition to Mễ Sở and Phú Xuyên.

The four over Đuống River will be Đuống No 2, Ngọc Thụy, Giang Biên and Mai Lâm.

At present, the project for Tứ Liên Bridge, linking Hà Nội to Thái Nguyên Province, has begun.

Building the new bridges is intended to reduce traffic burdens as well as improve links between city districts and neighbouring provinces.

The project’s investment is estimated at VNĐ17 trillion (US$748 million) under public-private partnership (PPP) and build-transfer (BT) models.

The Tứ Liên Bridge is expected to be completed in 2021.

The Đuống Bridge No 2, linking Hà Nội to Bắc Ninh Province, aims to reduce traffic on the existing Đuống Bridge, which has seriously degraded over the years.

The Đuống Bridge No 2 project will have capital of VNĐ6 trillion ($264 million) under the PPP and Build-Operate-Transfer models and is expected to be completed in 2021.

The Trần Hưng Đạo Bridge project, with investment capital of VNĐ7 trillion ($308 million), will be completed by 2019 to help reduce traffic congestion on the Long Biên and Chương Dương bridges during rush hour.

To promote the urbanisation process, socio-economic development and further investment attraction in Gia Lâm District, the municipal People’s Committee asked the relevant agencies to start the project to build Giang Biên Bridge next year.

The 30-month project has an investment of VNĐ6 trillion ($264 million) under the BT model.

In addition, the committee asked for the second phase of the Vĩnh Tuy Bridge project to be quickly completed. — VNS
