HA NOI (VNS) – A section of the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable, which connects international Internet traffic between HCM City and Hong Kong (China), was discovered to be cut at 5:17 am yesterday.

The cable disruption slowed down online transactions and information exchange services between Viet Nam and foreign countries, but should have hardly affected domestic connections.

The Viet Nam Post and Telecom Group (VNPT) said that after they heard of the incident it launched intensive measures to return the cable to normal functioning as quickly as possible.

Throughout 2014 and in January 2015, AAG has been cut on five separate occasions. — VNS
