Blue chips drag markets down

HA NOI (VNS) — Foreign investors remained net sellers yesterday and large-cap shares continued their decline to drag down both southern and northern markets.

Foreign investors recorded a net selling value of VND61.4 billion (US$2.9 million) and traded 20 million shares.

On the HCM Stock Exchange, foreign investors recorded a net selling value of VND40.5 billion ($1.9 million), a decrease of 58.4 per cent, while on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, they recorded a net selling value of VND21 billion ($1 million), a fall of 6 per cent.

On the southern bourse, the VN30 Index, capturing the south's largest 30 shares in terms of market value and liquidity, finished at 593.80 points, a decline of 0.71 per cent. It recorded a trading value of VND772.8 billion ($36.8 million) for nearly 36.7 million traded shares. Among those shares, losers outnumbered gainers by 23 to three.

FLC Group Joint Stock Company (FLC), Danang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC) and Vietcombank (VCB), raised their values by between 0.28 per cent and 0.85 per cent.

As a result, the benchmark VN-Index yesterday lost 0.61 per cent to close at 567.43 points with a total trading volume of nearly 92 million shares, a decrease of 7.6 per cent, worth VND1.69 trillion ($80.4 million).

FLC Joint Stock Stock Company (FLC) remained the top trader with more than 9.4 million shares at VND11,800, an increase of 0.85 per cent.

The Do Thanh Technology Corporation (DTT) was top gainer with an increase of 6.98 per cent to VND8,600.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX30 Index decreased by 0.72 per cent to close at 158.56 points, and recorded a trading volume of 28.3 million shares, worth VND383 billion ($18.2 million).

The HNX-Index declined by 0.74 per cent to close the session at 83.32 points. Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB) yesterday rose as the top trade in the northern market with a total volume of 7.4 million shares, while the KLF Joint Venture Global Investment Joint Stock Company (KLF) fell to second place with five million traded shares.

Hoa Phat Textbook Printing Joint Stock Company (HTP) was the top gainer in the market with an increase of 10 per cent in share value. Shares closed at VND8,800.

Overall, both markets closed the session with a total trading volume of 138.7 million shares, a decrease of 5.6 per cent.This equalled a total trading value of VND2.28 trillion ($108.7 million), a decrease of 4.6 per cent. — VNS
