The steering committee on forest prevention and protection in the southeastern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has asked People's Committees at district levels and forest owners to immediately strengthen preventive methods to ensure safety for more than 30,000ha of forest.
Local forestry officials have been asked to step up inspections and warn of danger of fire around the clock. Forests with a high risk of fire are in the districts of Tan Thanh, Xuyen Moc, Long Dien and Dat Do.

All schools urged to provide counselling
The Ministry of Education and Training has instructed educational departments in provinces and cities to provide guidance to all secondary and high schools to set up a counselling department for students.
The ministry also plans to issue guidance documents for school counselling in the near future. Many schools do not have counselling departments or teachers who specialise in this field.

Dong Thap has most workers abroad
The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap has the highest number of guest workers abroad in the region. As many as 1,763 people have registered to work abroad since the beginning of the year, according to the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. Of these, 580 went abroad, including 57 per cent to Japan.
The province has provided loans worth more than VND20 billion (US$889,000) to 309 of the workers.

Mechanics firms to invest in support industry
The HCM City People's Committee under Decision No 50 has approved an investment promotion programme for mechanics firms that invest in support industries.
Under the new policy, the state will pay a portion of the interest rate on loans to mechanics enterprises that invest in projects related to support industries. Loans for construction of infrastructure will receive support of 70 per cent of the interest rate, and loans for purchase of machinery and technology 85 per cent.

Ha Noi creates master plan for underground
Ha Noi has approved a plan on underground areas by 2030 with a vision to 2050.
Under the plan, the 75,600ha urban area will be bounded by Ca Lo River in the north, Bac Ninh and Hung Yen provinces in the east and Ring Road No 4 in the west and south. It will have a population of 4.6 million by 2030 and 5.4 million by 2050.
The plan aims to create a master plan for the city's construction and contribute to sustainable development.
