58 newly-discovered caves in Quảng Bình

QUẢNG BÌNH — Authorities of Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park in central Quảng Bình Province on Tuesday announced the discovery of 58 new caves in its territory.

Lê Thanh Tịnh, the park’s director was quoted by local newspapers as saying the newly-discovered caves are in buffer zone of the park in the province’s mountainous Minh Hóa District.

Tịnh said the park’s forest rangers and nearby residents discovered the cavesThe park authorities also made comparisons the existing list of caves made by the British Royal Cave Association to eliminate mistakes in listing new caves.

Staff at the park had investigated some among the new caves. The park will work with members of the British association to transfer information of those newly-discovered caves to serve detail examinations from those experienced explorers.

British explorers have helped investigate many caves in Quảng Bình, known as the kingdom of caves of Việt Nam. The world’s biggest cave Sơn Đoòng was discovered thanks to those explorers, based on the discovery of the cave’s entrance by a local resident. — VNS
