ĐẮK NÔNG – A bomb weighing over 220kg left behind from the Việt Nam war was safely removed from a family’s garden in the Central Highlands province of Đắk Nông on Wednesday.

The family in Đắk Song District discovered the bomb, which was more than 1.6m long and contained 87kg of explosives, while digging the ground to plant pepper trees.

Two shells weighing 13kg and 22kg were also found in the garden of some locals, Lieutenant Colonel Lê Đình Thụ of the provincial Military Command said.

All the weapons were removed to a drill ground 100km away and were successfully destroyed on the same day, he said.

Although authorities have attempted to demine the area, unexploded ordnance left from the war still threatens the lives of the residents. – VNS
