Propagandist's sentence cut

Update: November, 29/2012 - 09:27

HA NOI (VNS)— Le Thanh Tung, 44, was sentenced by a court of appeals in Ha Noi yesterday to four years in prison and an additional four years' probation in his residential area for conducting propaganda against the State.

This was one year less in prison than the sentence he received in August before appealing.

According to the indictment from the Ha Noi People's Procuracy, Tung wrote and posted articles with reactionary content between August 2009 and October 2011.

These allegedly distorted the truth, besmirched the Party and State and opposed the National Congress and the Communist Party of Viet Nam, elections for the National Assembly and People's Councils.

Related articles were seized by the police at his residential place and from his computer, including emails.

In August, the Ha Noi People's Court sentenced Tung to five years in prison and four years' probation, pursuant to Article 88, Item 1, point C of the Penal Code. — VNS
