HA NOI — Five out of 12 taxi enterprises checked in Ha Noi were put off the road and fined for not having an operating licence, the Ministry of Transport said.
The ministry conducted the inspection in Ha Noi and HCM City from November 10-20 last year and announced results in the capital on Monday.
The five enterprises were BG Taxi Corporation, Phu Gia Co Ltd, Hong Hung Co Ltd, Le Gia Trade and Investment Co Ltd and the Hung Hai Khue Corporation.
They were temporarily suspended and had to pay a fine of VND5 million ($240) each.
Some of the enterprises were also found to have violated other rules. For instance, Hung Hai Khue Corporation did not have an operator or an operating centre, and Phu Gia Transport Co Ltd had franchised its trademark to drivers for VND800,000 ($38) a month but failed to manage and punish the drivers.
Ministry chief inspector Nguyen Xuan Hao also blamed local departments of transport for not properly inspecting taxi firms after licensing them.
"The number of transport inspectors is few and they must do a lot of other work," he said.
Ha Noi has about 110 taxi enterprises.
The inspectors plan to announce the results of the taxi inspection in HCM City next week. — VNS
