Risk-taking fishing boat owners fined

QUANG NGAI — Sa Ky Border Post in central Quang Ngai Province has fined two fishing boat owners for ignoring regulations by operating their boats in bad weather. Do Van Kha and Do Van Quang of the province's Binh Son District were each fined VND10 million ($500), according to the provincial border guard command.

Although the authority banned local boats from putting out to rough seas on November 4, the two owners still sailed their boats to Ly Son Island, 12 nautical miles away from the district, and back.

Customs officials seize undeclared cash

HCM CITY — The Customs Division at Tan Son Nhat International Airport discovered Luong Vi Duong, 41, a Vietnamese-Canadian man, transporting an undeclared HK$1 million (US$129,000) in his luggage.

Duong was in the airport after disembarking a flight from Hong Kong on Wednesday.The case is under investigation.

Fake Ngoc Linh ginseng discovered

KON TUM – Police in the Central Highland province of Kon Tum discovered a local man selling two kilos of counterfeit Ngoc Linh ginseng on Thursday.

Nguyen Dinh Ky of Kon Plong District admitted to police that the ginseng had been transported from the northern region.

The Ngoc Linh ginseng, which was first found in the Central Highlands in 1973, has been listed in the Viet Nam Red Book. — VNS
