WIPO Assemblies hold minute’s silence to remember President Trần Đại Quang

The Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) recently held a minute’s silence in memory of Vietnamese President Trần Đại Quang who passed away on Friday in Hà Nội.

GENEVA — The Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on Monday held a minute’s silence in memory of Vietnamese President Trần Đại Quang who passed away on Friday in Hà Nội.

Before the 58th Series of Meetings of the WIPO Assemblies, which opened in Geneva, Switzerland, WIPO Director General Francis Gurry announced the death of the Vietnamese head of State and extended deep condolences to the bereaved family and the Government and people of Việt Nam.

He recalled his meeting with President Trần Đại Quang in March 2017 during his trip to Việt Nam. At the meeting, the President vowed to create optimal conditions for the growth of the intellectual property system, which contributes to Việt Nam’s socio-economic development.

Ambassador Dương Chí Dũng, head of Việt Nam’s permanent mission to the United Nations, other international organisations in Geneva and Chairman of the WIPO Assemblies for 2018-19, expressed thanks to international friends for their condolences over the passing of President Trần Đại Quang.

In their speeches, delegates of WIPO Assemblies expressed their profound condolences to the Government and people of Việt Nam on the President’s passing.

President Trần Đại Quang passed away at 10:05am on Friday at the age of 62 due to serious illness. He was elected State President at the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly on April 2, 2016. — VNS
