HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc met with a delegation of US parliamentarians led by Ted Yoho, chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific within the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, in Hà Nội on Monday.
PM Phúc said the Government and people of Việt Nam appreciate the support that the US Congress, including many members of the House of Representatives, has given to the Asian-Pacific region and the development of the US’s comprehensive partnership with Việt Nam, especially in helping US businesses invest in Việt Nam.
He affirmed that Việt Nam attaches importance to relations with the US and wants to reinforce the partnership in a result-oriented manner on the basis of respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political regimes, for the sake of the countries’ people as well as for peace, stability, co-operation and development.
PM Phúc lauded the increasingly positive development of Việt Nam-US relations in bilateral, regional and global aspects.
He also mentioned the growing ties between the two countries’ parliaments, particularly exchanges of views between their lawmakers.
Việt Nam welcomes more US parliamentarians to visit to learn about its history, culture, country and people as well as to seek measures to foster ties.
For his part, Yoho said he is happy to meet PM Phúc again after his phone calls with the Vietnamese leader last May.
He said as Chairman of the Asia and the Pacific Subcommittee at the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, he will work harder to enhance cultural and trade co-operation and legislative experience sharing, thus helping relations to develop. — VNS
