HA NOI (VNS) — Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh has once again expressed Viet Nam's strong objection to a pair of Chinese civilian jet airliners that landed at an illegally-built airport on Chu Thap (Fiery Cross) Island in Viet Nam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago on Wednesday.

He said the action has seriously violated Viet Nam's sovereignty and threatened peace and stability in the region as well as maritime and aviation security, safety and freedom in the East Sea.

Viet Nam resolutely asks China to immediately stop similar actions that violate Viet Nam's sovereignty over Truong Sa archipelago, respect relevant international law and refrain from escalating and complicating the dispute, Binh said.

Viet Nam will firmly safeguard its sovereignty and jurisdictional rights in the East Sea by peaceful means in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, he added.

Also yesterday, responding to reporters'queries on Viet Nam's response to North Korea's hydrogen bomb test, the spokesman asserted that Viet Nam supports de-nuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula as well as a comprehensive nuclear test ban and non-proliferation toward disarmament of this type of weapon.

"The DPRK's action was a clear violation of the UN Security Council's resolutions, increasing tensions and threatening peace and stability in the region," he affirmed.

Viet Nam calls on concerned parties to take practical measures to foster peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, Binh said. — VNS
