HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam's Peacekeeping Centre and the Defence Attache' Office at the French Embassy in Ha Noi have jointly organised a two-day conference to share their experiences in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in the capital city yesterday and today.
The key objective of the conference was to consolidate the understanding, mutual friendship and cooperation between the two nations in the field of UN Peacekeeping Operations.
Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant Colonel Vo Anh Tuan, Deputy Chief of the Viet Nam People's Army cum Deputy Director of the National Defence's Steering Committee for UN Peacekeeping Operation spoke highly of the comprehensive development between Viet Nam and France, particularly the cooperation in the field of UN Peacekeeping Operation since Viet Nam officially sent its forces to join UN missions.
Lieutenant Colonel Tuan expressed his hope that France would further extend its help to Viet Nam to accomplish its missions in the UN Peacekeeping Operations.
He hoped France would organise training workshops and supply equipment and facilities to Vietnamese UN peacekeepers.
"During the process of preparations and deployment of UN peacekeepers, Vietnamese and French permanent missions at the UN and the UN Peacekeeping Missions should co-ordinate closely with each other," Tuan said.
Addressing the conference, Remi Lambert, French Minister Counsellor to Viet Nam said at present France ranked third among countries participating in the UN peacekeeping operations in terms of financial contribution.
"France has dispatched more than 900 people to participate in all peacekeeping activities world wide," Lambert said.
"France is committed to sharing with Viet Nam its experiences in peacekeeping activities and to helping Viet Nam quickly integrate in all UN peacekeeping activities," Remi Lambert stressed.
Up to now, Viet Nam has seven times sent its army officers to work at UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic. Viet Nam is actively preparing human resources and facilities to open a field hospital - level 2 and an engineer company to participate in the UN peacekeeping forces when it is requested. — VNS
