DONG NAI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the opening ceremony of the southern Dong Nai province's party congress yesterday.

The PM praised the province's accomplishments over the last five years and urged Dong Nai to become a leading force in the country's modernisation and socio-economic development.

He also ordered the province's authority to reflect on its shortcomings and limitations as well as to find solutions to maintain its development.

PM Dung asked the province to utilise its full potential and advantages to become a modern industrialised province in 2020, in line with the country's goal in the next five years to become an industrialised country, maintain high growth and achieve sustainable development.

The PM urged Dong Nai to focus in improving productivity, product quality and competitiveness, saying these were deciding factors in order to compete in the global market.

He said the province must strive to attract more investment, preferably high-tech projects as well as to facilitate business activities.

As a fast growing province with the fifth largest population in the country, Dong Nai must focus in improving workers' living standards, job creation, poverty reduction and other social services.

Dong Nai must aim to become a centre for human resource development in the region, especially in developing a skilled labour force, technological advances and applications.

In order to achieve these objectives, he asked the province to step up efforts in corruption-fighting, improve management capacity and investment environment, perform administrative reform and provide businesses with more support.

The chairman said Phu Tho must play to its advantages on agriculture, culture and tourism. He stressed on the need for the province to invest in environmentally friendly agricultural technologies and a skilled labour force to produce high-quality products.
