HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam was seriously concerned about Indonesian forces sinking several Vietnamese vessels fishing illegally in Indonesian waters, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Le Hai Binh, said yesterday.
He made the statement in response to reporters' questions regarding Indonesia's sinking of foreign fishing ships, including Vietnamese boats, violating its sea boundaries.
He added that the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a diplomatic note on the issue to Indonesia yesterday.
The note asked Indonesia to handle Vietnamese fishermen who had violated Indonesia's territorial waters in line with the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Binh said Viet Nam had continually reminded its fishermen not to infringe upon foreign waters. — VNS
