HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg yesterday during her five-day visit to Viet Nam.

Dung said the Government would do its best to implement agreements made between the two countries during Vietnamese Party Leader Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to the US in July.

He also said Viet Nam was continuing its judicial reform and striving to protect justice and human rights, adding that he hoped the two countries could foster co-operation in these fields.

Ginsburg said she highly appreciated Viet Nam's achievements in judicial reform and the legal sector. She said she learned how much Viet Nam has progressed in these fields from her meetings with Vietnamese judicial agencies.

Ginsburg also met with Vietnamese Chief Justice Truong Hoa Binh the same day.

At the meeting they discussed social equality, human rights and equal access to the courts. The two chief justices agreed to strengthen co-operation in these areas.

Ginsburg was appointed in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, becoming the second female justice in the history of the US Supreme Court. — VNS
