HA NOI (VNS) — The National Assembly's Committee for External Relations on Saturday held a seminar on the ASEAN Politics-Security Community, one of the three key pillars of the ASEAN Community that is expected to be formed at the end of this year.
Addressing the event, chairman of the committee Tran Van Hang said the ASEAN Community was expected to bring a new vitality to the community and the region.
He said he hoped participants would contribute ideas on policy building and active integration into the region, ultilising the advantages the bloc could bring.
A representative from the Foreign Ministry said the ASEAN Community would continue its central role in the region and contribute to peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.
The ASEAN Politics-Security Community aimed to enhance political and security collaboration among the group's member countries, with the engagement and contributions of outside states, ensuring all ASEAN countries shared a peaceful and equal environment with each other and with the rest of the world, said the representative.
The community will promote a violence-free approach and the settlement of disputes through peaceful measures, while expanding relations with outside partners and maintaining its central role in the regional security architecture.
Participants at the event agreed that the Politics-Security Community played an important part of the ASEAN Community, especially in the context of rising tensions in the region, including the East Sea.
They also focused on the prospects and challenges facing Viet Nam, as well as future plans for the community and measures that Viet Nam could apply to integrate further into the ASEAN community. — VNS
