HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday praised the efforts of the social insurance sector in bringing its transactions and management online in a very short time.

The Prime Minister was speaking at the launching of the e-portal of Viet Nam Social Insurance yesterday in Ha Noi, an attempt to put all social insurance transactions online.

While noting that economic growth needed to be in line with social security, raising people's living standards and ensuring social welfare, Dung said social insurance was the pillar of the social-welfare network.

Viet Nam Social Insurance last year took aggressive measures in administrative reform, of which the most important was reducing the number of procedures from 263 to 111, saving nearly VND3.67 trillion (US$174 million) in the State budget - and surpassing the goal set by Government.

Prime Minister Dung urged the Viet Nam Social Insurance to try to cut the time required to complete social insurance paperwork to 49.5 hours from 335 hours by the end of this year in line with time required in the ASEAN-6 countries (Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brunei).

The leader also expressed a more ambitious goal to cut another one to two hours to be comparable to the ASEAN-4 group.

He said the agency should reduce paperwork as its main task since this could help the people and the country. New technology was also needed for administrative reform, he said.

Since the beginning of April, enterprises in Viet Nam started to make online social insurance with special software.

The software supports online declaration of social and health insurance procedures, and management of employees and records. The software can be quickly updated after any changes in policies. — VNS
