HA NOI (VNS) — Speaker of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s National Assembly, Chung Ui-wha, arrived yesterday in Viet Nam to start a five-day official visit to the country.
The visit, part of a Southeast Asia tour, was arranged at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung
The two assembly speakers will hold talks focused on consolidating ties between the RoK and the Southeast Asia region.
VietNam and the RoK elevated their relationship to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2009.
The closer ties between the countries led the RoK to become Viet Nam ‘s largest foreign investor last year in terms of both capital value and number of projects.
Viet Nam is a manufacturing hub for more than 4,000 Korean firms such as Samsung Electronics, POSCO Steel, LG electronics, Hyundai Heavy Industries and SK Energy.
Bilateral trade reached US$30.3 billion in 2014, making the RoK Viet Nam's third-largest trading partner, after China and the US. — VNS
