HA NOI (VNS) — Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc welcomed Rose Gottemoeller, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, US State Department, during her first visit to Viet Nam yesterday.
During a meeting in Ha Noi, both sides discussed measures to implement a bilateral comprehensive partnership in the context of the two countries celebrating two decades of the normalisation of diplomatic ties.
They also sought co-operation in addressing the aftermath of war, including the clearance of unexploded ordnances (UXOs).
Both sides also touched upon measures for maintaining peace, stability, navigation and aviation freedom and safety in the East Sea, on the basis of respecting international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The two leaders also spoke about fully adhering to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and working towards the formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
On the same day, Gottemoeller also met Deputy Minister of Defence Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, who stated that defence co-operation between the two countries has made progress, with efforts dealing with war consequences, such as assistance extended to Agent Orange victims, showing practical results. — VNS
