HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed the new UK Ambassador to Viet Nam, Giles Lever, at a reception in Ha Noi yesterday.
The PM suggested further strengthening of bilateral political, economic and investment ties through more exchange visits and increased trade.
He expressed his hope that Lever would work closely with Vietnamese and UK authorities to foster co-operation in education, healthcare, and national defence and security.
The PM said he was confident that the ambassador would contribute to furthering the strategic partnership between both countries.
Lever told the Prime Minister that the UK was interested in further developing its partnership with Viet Namwith a focus on investment, trade, education healthcare and the retail sector.
He praised Viet Nam for improving its business climate, saying it had facilitated an increase in foreign investment from the UK and elsewhere.
The new ambassador also affirmed that the UK was eager to work with Viet Nam on education training, national defence and security, as well as in tackling global issues like climate change, rising sea levels and peacekeeping operations.
The UK also supports Viet Nam in its efforts to broaden its partnership with the EU, he said. — VNS
