VIENTIANE (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc yesterday told the Lao Party General Secretary and President, Choummaly Sayasone, that he is pleased with the growing ties between the two parties and states.

Phuc made the statement at the meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Co-operation Committee, which took place in Vientiane.

He stressed the need to maintain regular exchanges between high-ranking delegation officials as well as the sharing of experience and support between the two parties, especially in preparation for their Parties' upcoming National Congress.

The Lao President also lauded the efforts of the co-operation sub-committees and involved ministries, localities and business circles in realising bilateral cooperation agreements and treaties.

He added that he valued Viet Nam's commitment to increase official development assistance (ODA) to Laos by 30 per cent in 2015, and that Viet Nam continues to be one of the leading foreign investors in Laos.

Chairwoman of Laos' NA Pany Zathotou also met with Deputy PM Phuc on the same day, where she suggested that the legislatures of both countries should further promote collaboration through bilateral and multilateral frameworks.

She also pledged that the Laos NA will work closely with Viet Nam's NA in monitoring joint projects, specifically suggesting that Viet Nam assist Laos in agricultural development. — VNS
