VN acclaims US' East Sea decision

HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam welcomes the first ever resolution passed by the US House of Representatives supporting efforts to solve disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means on the basis of international law, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh said yesterday.

Responding to reporters' who wanted to know Viet Nam's reaction to the US House approving H.Res 714, he noted that the resolution also backs the implementation of a Code of Conduct (COC) for the East Sea.

"We back all efforts to make active, effective and constructive contributions to maintaining peace, stability, security and safety of navigation and aviation in the region," Binh said.

The resolution, passed by the US House of Representatives on Thursday, was sponsored by congresspersons Eni Faleomavaega, Elliot Engel, Steve Chabot, Madeleine Bordallo, Ros Latihnen, Ani Bera and Steve Stockman. — VNS
