HA NOI (Biz Hub) — ASEAN and South Korea need to further support and co-operate with each other to maintain peace, stability and security in Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia, said an official.
The ministry of foreign affairs' ASEAN Department Director General Nguyen Tien Minh said this today, at a seminar in Ha Noi on the strategic partnership of ASEAN and South Korea.
The nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and the sovereignty disputes over the sea and islands in the East China Sea and the East Sea (the South China Sea) are considered as the top three potential security risks in the East Asia region.
"ASEAN and Korea should also strengthen the economic pillar in our strategic partnership, aiming to achieve and even exceed the bilateral trade target of US$150 billion in 2015, and US$200 billion in 2020," Minh said.
