HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam was fully prepared for the upcoming 24th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM-24), the 15th ASEAN Conference of Army Commanders (ACAMM-15) and the 4th Conference of ASEAN Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (ASMAM-4), a military officer announced yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference in Ha Noi yesterday, Major General Nguyen Phuong Dien, Deputy Director of the Department of Popularisation and Training under the General Department of Politics, noted that this was the second time Viet Nam was hosting the AARM-24, and the first time for the ACAMM-15 and ASMAM-4.
He added that these events provided an opportunity to introduce the traditions of the Viet Nam People's Army and the country's cultural identities to partners from other ASEAN members.
The AARM started in 1990 at the initiative of the ASEAN Chiefs of Army, aiming to strengthen solidarity, mutual understanding and friendship between ASEAN militaries. It is held annually on a rotational basis.
This year, the event will take place in Ha Noi from November 11-28.
ACAMM-15 and ASMAM-4 will be also held in the city from November 25-29.
Foreign military attaches meet
In another development, foreign military attache´s in Viet Nam held an exchange with officers and soldiers from the Viet Nam People's Army in Ha Noi on Thursday.
On behalf of the delegation, India's military attache Colonel Sri Kumar thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence for organising many practical activities that helped foreign military attaches understand more about the Army, as well as the culture and people of Viet Nam.
He expressed his wish that the ministry would continue to create favourable conditions for them to accomplish their missions, contributing to consolidating and developing friendship and co-operation between the armies of Viet Nam and other countries for the sake of peace, stability and development in region and the world. — VNS
