HA NOI — Viet Nam had a great opportunity to work with Japan on applying biotechnology to farm production, President Truong Tan Sang said yesterday in Ho Chi Minh City.
The President was meeting the Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Haysashi Yoshimasa, who was visiting Viet Nam as part of an agreement made between the two countries in March.
The President praised Japan's official development assistance and help with technology transfer to fishermen in central provinces.
Yoshimasa said Viet Nam's agricultural sector needed to raise productivity, and thanked Viet Nam for policies that enabled a free flow of Japanese farm goods to its markets.
He also said that an increased dialogue focused on agricultural co-operation would enable Japan to assist Viet Nam in the pursuit of an agricultural value chain and increased production.
Viet Nam would also attract more Japanese investors due to its rising per capita incomes, he added. — VNS
