HA NOI (VNS)— Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung discussed bilateral ties over the phone with Japan's new Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe yesterday.

Dung warmly congratulated Shinzo Abe on his election success, and his contributions to bilateral ties during his previous posts, particularly the creation of a framework for the two countries' strategic partnership.

In reply, Abe declared that the Japanese Government pays serious attention to its relations with Viet Nam, which it considers a reliable strategic partner in the region.

The two leaders expressed their delight at developments in relations over the past years in many fields, and agreed on measures to deepen the strategic partnership in the future.

The leaders committed to reaching agreements on economics, trade, investment, and official development assistance (ODA).

They agreed to work closely together to successfully organise activities celebrating the 2013 Viet Nam-Japan Friendship Year and the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. — VNS
