HA NOI (VNS)— An event celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Pakistan was held yesterday at the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisation (VUFO) in Ha Noi.
Speaking at the event, Shahid Kiani, Ambassador of Pakistan in Viet Nam, said both countries have travelled a long distance and overcome many challenges since 1972, when they first established diplomatic relations.
"The result is that at the dusk of 2012 and the dawn near to break on 2013, the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Viet Nam are robust," he said.
Kiani declared again Pakistan's support for Viet Nam to be recognised as a full market economy and made clear his appreciation of Viet Nam's efforts to forge close economic and trade ties with his country.
Don Tuan Phong, deputy chairman of VUFO, noted that bilateral trade with Pakistan jumped from about US$10 million in 1999 to about US$324 million in 2011.
Phong also stressed that both countries had also worked effectively in other areas, such as culture, science and technology and defence. — VNS
