HA NOI — Party Politburo member Dinh The Huynh visited the Viet Nam Journalists' Association, the Vietnam News Agency and the Tien Phong (Vanguard) and Lao Dong (Labour) newspapers in Ha Noi yesterday.

The visits took place to mark the 87th anniversary of Viet Nam's Revolutionary Press Day today.

During the visits, Huynh, who is also the head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Popular-isation and Education, congratulated journalists, media agencies and generations of Vietnamese journalists for their contributions to national construction and development.

He highlighted the efforts of the country's press agencies in providing timely information on Party policies and State laws, saying the press was an information channel and the forum of the people, reflecting their desire and creativeness.

He said that during the information boom and with the rapid introduction of new technology, press agencies needed to be staffed by journalists with a sound political ideology, professional ethics and expertise in their work and who raised their levels of responsibility in fighting negative phenomena, wastefulness and corruption and degradation in political ideology and lifestyles.

Huynh praised VNA for its contributions to national construction and development.

He said VNA had promoted its role and its responsibility as an important and reliable strategic news agency of the Party and State by providing up-to-date, accurate and diverse information.

The agency had also been successful when providing foreign news services and had comprehensively overhauled its press and publishing operations, he said. — VNS
