HA NOI — Nearly 1,000 participants are going to attend a five-day meeting on co-operative relations between the national assemblies of Viet Nam and Laos starting on Sunday.
Attendees will focus on assessing co-operation between the two countries generally and their national assemblies specifically over the past years, and putting forward plans for future co-operation.
Tran Van Hang, chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations yesterday said this meeting was a key event in the 2012 Viet Nam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year that would contribute to improving bilateral ties.
He said this was a chance for the members of two countries' national assemblies and leaders of provinces along the Viet Nam – Laos border area to exchange information and experiences in implementing their mutual agreements.
A conference will be held in the northern mountainous province of Son La next Monday, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Somsavat Lengsavad.
This substantial activity marks the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties and the 35th anniversary of signing the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Treaty.
The programme will include a photo exhibition on the Viet Nam-Laos traditional friendship held by the Vietnam News Agency, a cultural exchange by Viet Nam Television and a groundbreaking ceremony to begin the construction of Lao Kho historical site in Son La province. — VNS
