HA NOI — President Truong Tan Sang has called on the Viet Nam War Veterans Association (VWVA) at all levels to contribute to national economic development, cultural preservation and Party building, as set under the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress.
At a working session with the VWVA in Ha Noi yesterday on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the liberation of southern Viet Nam and national reunification, Sang praised the contributions made by generations of Vietnamese war veterans.
He said the VWVA was worthy of being a socio-political organisation representing the will and interests of war veterans. The association had become a reliable support for Party committees and authorities at all levels, he said.
The war veterans said they hoped the Party and State leaders would pay attention to combining economic development and ensuring security and defence in key areas, building a strong law-governed State and effectively implementing the Resolution of the Party Central Committee's fourth session.
The VWVA has more than 3.6 million members living throughout the country.
Over 5,000 businesses and co-operatives owned by VWVA members have helped generate jobs for 200,000 workers, and they have also donated billions of dong for charitable activities and disaster relief. — VNS
