HA NOI — A delegation of lawmakers led by National Assembly vice chairman Uong Chu Luu paid a working visit to the US and Canada last week to exchange experiences in lawmaking and legislative oversight.
In Washington, D.C., the delegation held working sessions with Senator Patrick Leahy, chairman of the US Senate's Judiciary Committee, and Senator Thad Cochran, vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, as well as representatives of the Congressional Research Service and the Mike Mansfield Foundation.
In Ottawa, the delegation met with the Speaker of the House of Commons Andrew Scheer, Senators Terry Mercer and Mac Harb, and members of parliament Gordon Brown and Patrick Brown, as well as with scholars from Ottawa University and overseas Vietnamese in Canada.
Throughout the week, representatives of all the countries acknowledged the importance of developing relations and promoting further trade and investment co-operation. They also highlighted the need to promote the exchange of further exchanges of experience. — VNS
