HA NOI — President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung separately met out-going Brazilian Ambassador to Viet Nam Joao de Mendonca Lima Neto in Ha Noi yesterday.

Sang told his guest that Viet Nam attached importance to the role and position of Brazil as the largest Latin American economy.

He said that the ambassador had made contributions to raising bilateral ties, making Brazil Viet Nam's leading trade partner in Latin America, with two-way trade reaching US$1.5 billion in 2011.

For his part, Dung affirmed that Viet Nam would try its best to further expand co-operation with Brazil, making bilateral ties practical and effective for the common development of both countries.

He praised the diplomat for his contributions to boosting relations between Viet Nam and Brazil during his term of office.

Ambassador Joao de Mendonca Lima Neto said the two countries' potential for further co-operation was great. Besides co-operation in trade and investment, the two countries should boost ties in education, culture, science and technology and tourism, he said.

The PM said he valued Eximbank's effective aid for several projects in Viet Nam and expressed his wish for continued co-operation and support from the bank.

Applauding the US decision to choose Viet Nam as one of the nine recipients of Eximbank aid, the Government leader affirmed that Viet Nam would create favourable conditions for the bank's co-operation activities in the country.

Fred Hochberg said his visit aimed to boost Eximbank's co-operation and aid activities for Vietnamese projects, especially those in energy and infrastructure.

He spoke highly of Viet Nam's dynamic development and potential, and expressed his belief that Eximbank's co-operation agreement during the visit would be implemented soon. — VNS
