HA NOI – President Truong Tan Sang yesterday condoled Raul Castro Ruz, President of the State Council and the Council of Ministers of Cuba over the death of Julio Casas Regueiro, Vice President of the State Council and Minister of Defence.
On the same day, vice chairman of the HCM City People's Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan paid tribute and offered sympathy to Julio Casas Regueiro's family at the Cuban Consulate General in the city.
The Foreign Service Department, the Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association and other organisations and agencies in HCM City sent wreaths to pay tribute to the Cuban leader.
Delegation attends China forestry confab
BEIJING – A delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Minister Cao Duc Phat yesterday attended the 1st Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) forum's Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Forestry, in Beijing, China .
The meeting, themed "Enhanced regional cooperation for green growth and sustainable forestry development", was initiated at the 18th APEC High Level Meeting in Japan last year.
Speaking at the meeting, Chinese President Hu Jintao said the event opened a new channel for strengthening cooperation between economies in the region, fostering exchange of economic development methods, dealing with climate change, promoting green growth and stepping up the pace of development in each country's forestry sector.
He suggested that the regional economies should focus on the three major areas of enhancing forestry development, promoting the functions and effects of forests and strengthening cooperation in the region in the future.
Regional parties hold conference
HA NOI — A delegation of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) headed by Vuong Thua Phong, Deputy Director of the CPV Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, attended a special gathering of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Nanning, China, from September 2-6.
The conference was held by ICAPP in co-ordination with the Communist Party of China, under the theme "Development and People's Access: Deliver the Fruits of Development to the People".
More than 50 political parties from almost 30 countries in the Asia-Pacific region exchanged experiences in development achievements in healthcare, education, employment and poverty reduction.
Participants highlighted the role and responsibilities of governments in creating opportunities for equitable access to the benefits of development.
The Vietnamese head delegate informed the conference about Viet Nam's priority policies, achievements in a strong connection between economic development and social progress and equality.
The conference issued the Nanning declaration, calling on Asian political parties to accelerate international cooperation in social development, creating opportunities for people to access development achievements.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Vietnamese delegation also attended the meeting of the ICAPP Standing Committee and exchanged views to boost relations between the Communist Party of Viet Nam and other political parties in Asia. — VNS
