HCM CITY — The Sudanese Ambassador to Viet Nam, Adil Ibrahim Mustafa Ahmed, yesterday inaugurated his nation's honorary consulate in HCM City and introduced the honorary consul, a Vietnamese national.
He said Tran Uyen Phuong, deputy general director of Tan Hiep Phat Group, a major non-alcoholic beverage maker in Viet Nam, was the most impressive among dozens of candidates who applied for the position.
At the ceremony, the ambassador said the Sudanese Government had decided to appoint an honorary consul to the city because of the huge potential for economic and cultural relations.
Sudan is the third largest country in Africa with an area of 2.5 million square kilometres and a population of 39 million.
The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1969 and Sudan opened an embassy in Ha Noi in 2009.
Singapore navy ship visits City
HCM CITY — The Singaporean Navy's RSS Endurance carrying 216 officers and sailors arrived in HCM City yesterday, beginning a five-day visit to the city.
During the visit, the Singaporean officers and sailors will pay courtesy visits to the leaders of the municipal People's Committee, the High Command of Military Zone No7, hold sporting activities with Vietnamese naval officers and sailors and visit tourist attractions in the city.
The visit is expected to contribute to promoting friendly ties between Viet Nam and Singapore in general and the two nations' armies in particular. — VNS
