HA NOI — Viet Nam is determined together with Laos to effectively implement all agreements already signed by leaders of the two countries, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh yesterday.

Manh told Lao Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Asang Laoly that Viet Nam would actively endeavour to develop the Viet Nam-Laos relationship.

Manh praised the achievements of the Lao people over the past year, making note in particular of national construction and defence efforts. He believed the Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, would score still bigger achievements in implementing the 8th Party Resolution in the coming years. The resolution focuses on building Laos into a socialist oriented country of peace, independence, democracy, unity and prosperity.

For his part, Politburo member Asang Laoly praised Viet Nam’s achievements in the doi moi process and in successfully implementing its 2006 socio-economic development plan.

He believed under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the Vietnamese people would continue to reap the rewards of the renewal process. He was adamant that rapid development would continue in industrialisation and modernisation aiming at targets of a prosperous, equitable, democratic and civilised society.

The Lao guest informed his host of his country’s ongoing implementation of the 8th Party resolution, and the results of the talks between the inspection commissions of the two countries.

He also went on to pledge Laos commitment to cultivate bilateral relations.—VNS
