Security minister visits Laos to discuss co-operation
VIENTIANE — A
high-ranking delegation from Viet Nam’s Ministry of Public Security is
currently paying an official visit to Laos to review their bilateral
relationship and discuss further opportunities for co-operation between the two
The delegation, led by
Minister of Public Security Gen Le Hong Anh, met with Lao President Khamtay
Siphandone, Prime Minister Bounnyang Vorachit, as well as their counterparts in
the Lao Ministry of Public Security.
In their talks, officials
of the two Public Security ministries updated each other on socio-economic
achievements and the maintenance of political stability and security in each
country. They discussed further co-operation, as well as domestic and
international issues of mutual concern.
Minister Le Hong Anh and
Lao Security Minister Thongbanh Sengaphone signed a co-operation plan for the
two ministries for 2005.
Anh briefed President
Khamtay and Prime Minister Bounnyang on the results of the meeting and expressed
admiration for the achievements of the Lao Government and people in the
development of their nation.
Lao President Khamtay
Siphandone expressed happiness at the co-operative achievements made by the two
nations. The achievements have helped defeat destructive conspiracies by hostile
forces, protected the two parties, and have ensured social stability for the
people of both countries.
The Lao President said he
believed that co-operation between Viet Nam and Laos could be furthered
developed and strengthened, particularly in ensuring security along their common
Bounnyang recalled the
traditional friendship and co-operation between Viet Nam and Laos and between
the two ministries in the past struggle for national liberation and in the
current construction and development of the two countries.
The achievements of the
Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party are
inseparable from the previous assistance and support Laos received from the the
Communist Party, Government and people of Viet Nam, Bounnyang affirmed. He
referred to Lao success in organising the 10th ASEAN Summit and other
conferences last year.
During their visit, Anh
and his party laid a wreath at the Monument to Fallen Combatants in Vientiane
and visited the construction site of the Lao Journalists Association office
building being constructed with the help of the Viet Nam Journalists
Association. The Vietnamese delegation was warmly welcomed by Lao Minister of
Information and Culture Phandouangchit Vongsa and Lao Journalists Association
Anh also met with
personnel of the Vietnamese embassy in Laos. The Viet Nam officials will end
their visit tomorrow. — VNS
