NGHE AN — Ten workers were killed when a truck carrying 15 people and a load of wood overturned early yesterday on National Highway 48C in the central province of Nghe An’s Con Cuong District.
The driver of the truck, Vuong Dinh Hanh, was reported to have fled the scene.
Initial investigations found that seven people died on spot while the three others died on their way to the local Quy Hop Hospital.
Colonel Nguyen Dang Viet, deputy head of the district’s police, said another four people were treated for injuries at the hospital.
All the workers were from Chau Ly Commune in Quy Hop District.
The cause of the accident remains unknown.
The victims, who loaded and unloaded the wood, were aged between 21 and 31.
Each family who lost a relative will receive VND14.5 million ($680). The injured will receive between VND4 and 5 million ($190-240) depending on the level of injury from Con Cuong District People’s Committee, the Red Cross Association, Fatherland Front and Broadcasting and Television Stations.
