idols team up for gig in capital
HA NOI — Young pop
sensations from the US and the UK are getting ready to fire up fans at the
Hennessy Artistry concert in Ha Noi tonight.
The show is the first
popular music performance to be co-hosted by Hennessy and the Viet Nam
Performing Arts Centre. Their Hennessy Classic concerts have been running
annually since 1996.
The star-studded evening
includes performances from X-Factor 2005 reality show winner Shayne Ward, Latino
trio The DEY and alternative rock band Until June.
Ward shot to fame in the
UK with his debut single That’s My Goal – a Christmas No1 – which
hung onto the top slot in the charts for four consecutive weeks. In less than
three months the pop musician achieved extraordinary success, entering the Guinness
World Records book for the most downloaded track in a day. Since then his
music has topped the charts in Hong Kong, Sweden, South Korea, South Africa,
Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
Also in the line-up are
sassy Latino trio The DEY, famous for their innovative hip-hop and R&B style
that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Latin America. Performers Divine,
Elan, and Yeyo were recently voted "One of the Top 10 Artists to Watch
Right Now" by Entertainment Weekly.
Setting a different tone
for the night are alternative rock band Until June. The up-and-coming stars Josh
Ballard (Piano&Vocals), Dan Ballard (Guitar) and Daniel Dempsey (Drums)
present a more serious take on the music industry. "We would love to think
that we are making music that will change the world," says vocalist
Ballard. "We are more concerned with letting it all out than writing pop
hits. We want people to know that on our records, as well as at shows, we want
people to feel what we feel."
The show kicks off at 8pm
at the National Convention Centre. — VNS
