HCM CITY — A series of cultural activities will be held across the city this weekend to celebrate the 88th anniversary of Việt Nam Woman’s Day, October 20.

The Women’s Cultural House in District 3 is organising two exhibitions to honour the beauty and talent of Vietnamese women.

The exhibition Phụ Nữ Việt Nam Qua Tem Bưu Chính (Images of Vietnamese Women on Postal Stamps) showcases a collection of 100 stamps, depicting Vietnamese women in times of war and peace.

The stamps also feature portraits of women who won the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and women from 54 ethnic minorities.

The event will close on October 30.

On October 27 a painting exhibition Nhịp Cầu Xanh – 2018 (Green Bridge – 2018) by 21 artists of the Ngân Hà Women Artists’ Club will be held.

It will include 39 works in oil, acrylic and mixed-media, featuring images of daily life, still life and landscapes.

Painter Phương Mai, head of the club, said: “We want to reflect our optimistic views about life.”

The exhibition will close on November 7.

In addition, music performances, a singing contest, and a women’s mental health consultant will be part of the activities at the cultural house during the weekend.

The HCM City General Publishing House will host the Good Book Week fair at its bookstores in Districts 1 and 4, and on HCM City Book Pedestrian Street in District 1 from October 20-27.

The event will introduce 41 newly published titles in different genres such as literature, culture, history and science.

Outstanding publications will include Ngàn Năm Bia Miệng (Folktales of Southern Land) by Huỳnh Ngọc Trảng and Trương Ngọc Tường, and Chuyện Về Ứng Xử Văn Hóa (Lessons on Behaviour) by Phạm Phương Thảo.

The publishing house will also release new books about Sài Gòn/HCM City to celebrate its 320th birthday.

A tear-off calendar called Sài Gòn Xưa Và Nay (Sài Gòn Now and Then) will feature historic architectural sites and local lifestyles.

The organisers will offer discounts of up to 50 per cent for books during the week. — VNS
