Viet Nam’s oldest woman Nguyễn Thị Trù has died at the age of 123.

HCM CITY — Viet Nam’s oldest woman Nguyễn Thị Trù has died at the age of 123.

Trù passed away at her house in Đa Phước Commune in Bình Chánh District, HCM City, on July 12, the commune’s Vice-Chairman Phạm Thanh Hùng said.

Trù’s funeral was held in her hometown in Cần Giuộc District in the southern Long An Province and her body was buried in Sài Gòn Thiên Phúc Cemetery, also in the district.

Trù was recognised as the world’s oldest woman by the World Records Association last year, when she was 122.

According to documents preserved by Trù’s family, she was born on May 4, 1893. Trù had 11 children, 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-great grandchildren. — VNS
